Shoppers flocked to the Web for Holiday Shopping This Year

Did you get some nice gifts this year? Odds are at least some of those gifts were bought online. Consumers purchased gifts online in record numbers this year. According to an article on WSJ.com Sales online rose 15.4 this year as retailers offered web only deals and free shipping. That combination caused people to shop online in record numbers. Which explains why I didn’t see huge crowds at the stores until after the shipping window had passed at most retailers. Could we be seeing a new hybrid approach to retail that allows to benefit from shopping early while still getting the adrenaline rush of grabbing that last second present in the local store. This is another example of how the internet enhances the things we do. My one concern are all the people who missed out on these deals because they are not online. My hope is that stories like this will get to those people and next year they will be at the ready on Cyber Monday 2011!
